New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin is all set to visit India on December 5 for the Russia-India Forum. The upcoming visit will further strengthen the ties between both countries amid international tensions over Moscow’s war with Ukraine.
Moscow had earlier confirmed Putin’s visit to India. Last month, Modi and Putin held a telephonic conversation. During their telephonic conversation, both leaders described the relationship between India and Russia as a special and privileged strategic partnership. “Both leaders reaffirmed their pledge to further strengthen the ties between two countries in various sectors like trade, defence, and energy.
US’ increase of Tariff on India
In recent times, even as the United States increased Tariffs on India over New Delhi’s buying of crude oil from Moscow, the latter continued to back, insisting on its right to choose trading partners. However, recently, US President Donald Trump said that his administration and India are close to a trade deal which will lead to a reduction in Tariffs. He had also claimed that India has reduced its imports of oil from Russia.
Modi, Putin met in September
Both Putin and Modi had met earlier in September in China during a summit. The trio, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Modi and Putin were seen in conversation together, the photo of which had gone viral.
The upcoming visit by Putin next month will be his first since Russia’s war with Ukraine. Both leaders are expected to discuss on several issues like trade, defence and energy cooperation amid global tensions. As per the report published in ‘The Hindu’, India and Russia are likely to decide on several military equipment deals.
Notably, both sides are on active discussion on various deals, including increasing the range of the BrahMos missiles, upgradation of fighter jets, additions to S-400 missiles, and making a new stealth jet, Sukhoi-57E, in India itself.
